The Dobcross Youth Band

The Dobcross Youth Band is a brass band of committed players aged between six and 18 based in the village of Dobcross in Saddleworth. Formed in 1988 with a few village children it has now grown into a thriving organisation with more than 70 players, and a busy programme of concerts, competitions, social outings and supporting charities.

Dobcross Youth Band

Last year, dancing vicar Ben Brady made the Ashton Whit Walks hit the headlines - so this year our good friends at St Gabriel's Church, Ashton-Under-Lyne went one better and gave us a dancing Mayor and consort too!
Many thanks to Cllr Leigh Drennan and consort Cory for joining this joyous occasion. It is one of the band's favourites as we always get a very warm welcome and an equally delicious buffet...
As you can see from the pictures, we got drenched this year, especially MD Seth, but had a wonderful time anyway.
We're also thinking of launching a new exercise programme, BandFit (TM) as between Whit Friday and Whit Sunday, we've totted up more than 27,000 steps. We're really feeling for the bass players...

A very happy Father's Day to all our wonderful band dads and granddads. You all do so much to support our young players, whether it's fundraising like Hannah's dad Mark who spends every Whit Friday manning our barbecue; fixing things like Paige and Lacey's granddad Norman; coming to the rescue in a crisis like Julian's dad making an emergency lyre support out of twigs and elastic bands; or simply but crucially encouraging a love of music and performing.

Thank you to everyone who cheered on our young players on Whit Friday evening. We all had an absolutely amazing night and we are so proud of every single player who took part in the contests. Both the Training Band and the Youth Band loved being part of this fantastic Saddleworth tradition.
