Our players are enthusiastic, dedicated and talented – and we’re looking for a musical director to match!
We need someone who is passionate about nurturing the musicality of our youngsters, so that players of all abilities improve their playing and enjoy being part of an ensemble.
We are committed to providing the best experience possible at rehearsals, concerts and competitions and want a musical director who understands that children and young people learn best when they are enjoying themselves.
Our child-centred approach over the last 31 years has helped us to build a thriving organisation, well supported by parents, our local community and the wider brass band world. We currently have more than 70 players aged six-18 across three sections, beginners, trainers and the youth band. Our well-established and successful fundraising calendar means we support masterclasses and sectional rehearsals, as well as entry to a range of competitions such as the National Youth Brass Band Championships, Brass Factor, Music for Youth, the Regional Championships (where this year we took 5th place as a 4th section band) and of course the Saddleworth Whit Friday contests.
We have whole-organisation concerts at Christmas, Easter and summer and also work with other successful bands such as The Fairey Band, Boarshurst Silver, Diggle and Delph in joint concerts. We also put on occasional concert tours, which in the past have taken us to Cornwall, Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Belgium, and we are currently planning for a 2020 tour.
Some of the highlights of 2018 are captured on this short video https://youtu.be/ME9uOw0rEYQ to give you a wider picture of our activities. You can also see more on our Facebook page.
Our musical director will work with the committee and associate musical director (who leads the trainers and beginners) to plan future concert and contest programmes and to devise rehearsals that meet the needs of the players, are appropriate to their skill levels and help them to progress.
Anyone interested should email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a job description and our member code of conduct. If you would like an informal chat about the role and its responsibilities before you apply, please feel free to ring our secretary Jenny Wood on 07828 099296.
Applications and a current CV should be sent email@example.com by 31 May. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to take a rehearsal and to meet the committee.
