A huge ‘well done’ to Dobcross Youth Band’s training section who had a brilliant day at the National Youth Brass Band Championships in Warwick.

More than 30 keen musicians (the youngest just six years old) really enjoyed playing at Warwick School’s beautiful concert hall and all their hard work and practice was rewarded with a silver certificate and lots of warm praise from the adjudicators, Simone Rebello and Christopher Bond.

Their Musical Director Seth Livingstone said he was extremely proud of them, their wonderful playing and exemplary behaviour.

Following on from this, the training band were also joining the Youth Band to take part in the Holme Valley Brass Band Contest as the Dobcross Diary went to press.

Even more exciting for these youngsters is that they will be joining bands from across the country to play in the Whit Friday evening contests this year.

All sections of the band always play in the morning, of course, but this is the first time in many years that both the Youth Band and Training Band will join the evening circuit. Please do give them a cheer when they play at Dobcross – this event means so much to them!

This month will also see the Youth Band heading to London to play a concert for the Chelsea Pensioners. They are so grateful for the community’s support for them through Tesco’s ‘blue token’ scheme which has provided funding to support this trip.

You can see regular updates on the Youth Band’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/dobcross.youthband/ and of course, new players aged seven-18, are always welcome to come along to Dobcross Band Club on  Platt Lane on Tuesday or Friday evenings – we have a wide array of instruments available to borrow.
