Dobcross Youth Band, a thriving brass band on the outskirts of Oldham, is seeking an inspirational and engaging brass teacher as Associate Musical Director for its training band.
The successful applicant will have experience of high-quality brass teaching and of conducting an ensemble. They will be highly motivated and enthusiastic about developing the skills of our players aged six to 12. We are happy to support additional training courses for less experienced appointees.
In addition to working with the training band, there may also be opportunities to support sectionals with our Youth Band and to stand in for its Musical Director, Seth Livingstone. Seth previously led the training band and has now moved up to take charge of the older players.
Dobcross Youth Band is committed to providing the best experience possible at rehearsals, concerts and competitions and wants an Associate Musical Director who understands that children and young people learn best when they are enjoying themselves.
We currently have more than 80 players attending rehearsals each week across the three sections. We have whole-organisation concerts at Christmas, Easter and summer and the training band also take part in the Saddleworth Whit Friday band contests and the National Youth Brass Band Championships.
If you would like an informal chat about the role and its responsibilities before you apply, please feel free to ring our secretary Jenny Wood on 07828 099296.
Applications and a current CV should be sent to dobcrossyouthband@gmail.com by 30 January. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to take a rehearsal and to meet the committee.

A huge well done to our December players of the month, who have all shown huge amounts of dedication to playing and the band.
Beginner of the month is Gwen, who is working super hard to make excellent progress on baritone. Another star baritone player is Thomas, our training band player of the month who is doing a sterling job of leading the baritone and euphonium section.
December is always a hugely busy month for brass bands and all our players put in a lot of effort but youth band players of the month, Joe and Anna, made a big impression by not just giving their all at their allotted carolling jobs, but volunteering for several extra ones too - including playing around the village on Christmas day.

We're thrilled to have more than 80 players now enjoying playing music together every week and want to thank them, and everyone who supports them, for bringing so much enthusiasm, dedication and absolute joy to Dobcross Youth Band. Happy New Year, everyone. ... See MoreSee Less
